His Time in Politics

Sir John Houston became a Member of Parliament (MP) for Linlithgowshire. He was first elected in a special election called a by-election on 22 December 1708. He was elected again in the 1710 British general election.

This process is called being "seated on petition." By 1714, he also held a position as a Commissary of Glasgow, which meant he was involved in local administration.
