Sir Reginald Mohun, 1st Baronet (born 1564, died 1639), was an important person from Cornwall, England. He lived at a place called Boconnoc. Family Roots and History

Sir Reginald Mohun was the oldest son of Sir William Mohun (who died in 1587). His mother was Elizabeth Horsey. His family, the Mohuns, were very old and important. They were once powerful lords of Dunster Castle in Somerset.

Sir Reginald's Public Service

Sir Reginald Mohun had an active career in public service. He was chosen to be a Member of Parliament (MP) several times, representing different areas:

  • He was an MP for Fowey in 1584 and 1586.
  • He also represented East Looe in 1614.

He was also chosen to be the Sheriff of Cornwall for 1592–1593. A Sheriff was a very important local official, like a chief law enforcement officer. In 1600, he became a Deputy Lieutenant of Cornwall, helping to manage the county's military and civil affairs.

In 1599, he was given the title of Knight. Later, on November 25, 1612, he was made a baronet. This was a special honor given by the King.

Family Life and Marriages

Sir Reginald Mohun was married three times during his life.

First Marriage

In 1589, he married Mary Killigrew. She was the daughter of Sir Henry Killigrew, who was also an MP and a diplomat. They had one son:

  • William Mohun (died 1613) – Sadly, William passed away before his father and did not have any children.

Second Marriage

His second wife was Philippa Hele. She was the daughter of a famous lawyer, Sir John Hele. With Philippa, Sir Reginald had several children, including:

  • John Mohun (1595–1640) – He was the oldest son and became the next Baronet after his father. He was also given the title of Baron Mohun of Okehampton in 1628. This title was a nod to his family's connection to the old Earls of Devon and the powerful lords of Okehampton Castle.
  • Elizabeth Mohun (born 1593) – She married John Trelawney from Cornwall.

Third Marriage

Sir Reginald's third wife was Dorothy Chudleigh. She was the daughter of John Chudleigh and the sister of Sir George Chudleigh, 1st Baronet. With Dorothy, he had three sons and four daughters, including:

  • Reginald Mohun (1605–1642) – He was the second son and also became a Member of Parliament for Lostwithiel in 1626.
  • Ferdinando Mohun – His third son.
  • George Mohun (born 1613) – His fourth son.

Later Life and Passing

Sir Reginald Mohun passed away on December 26, 1639. His will, which is a legal document about his wishes for his property, was officially approved on April 30, 1640.
