Richard Corbet was born in 1640. His father was Edward Corbet, and his mother was Anne Newport. Anne's father was Richard Newport, 1st Baron Newport.

Richard's grandfather, Sir Edward Corbet, was the 1st Baronet of Leighton. A baronet is a special title, like a knight, that can be passed down in a family. Richard's father, Edward, sadly died before his own father. Because of this, Richard Corbet became the 2nd Baronet when his grandfather died in 1655.

In 1658, Richard started studying at Christ Church, Oxford, which is a college at Oxford University. He lived at Longnor Hall in Shropshire, England. In 1665, he was chosen to be a Fellow of the Royal Society, a group dedicated to improving knowledge through science.

Political Career

Sir Richard Corbet became involved in politics. In 1677, he was chosen to be a Member of Parliament (MP) for the town of Shrewsbury. An MP is a person elected to represent their area in the House of Commons. He was elected during a special election called a by-election, which happens when an MP leaves their seat.

He served in a government period known as the Cavalier Parliament. Sir Richard was re-elected as MP for Shrewsbury two more times, in 1679 and again in 1681. During the time of King Charles II, Sir Richard Corbet was the leader of the Committee of Elections. This committee was important for making sure elections were fair.

Later Life and Death
