King Henry VIII gave Richard Cotton land and property. These gifts were in places like Bedhampton, Hampshire, and Bourne, Lincolnshire. This showed that the king trusted and valued Richard's service.

Richard Cotton became a privy councillor in May 1552. A privy councillor was a special advisor to the king or queen. They helped make important decisions for the country.

He also became a knight of the shire. This meant he was chosen to represent certain areas in the English Parliament. He represented Hampshire in 1553. The next year, in 1554, he represented Cheshire. These roles showed he was a respected politician.
