Sir Richard Ingoldsby was an important English gentleman from Buckinghamshire. He was the son of Sir Richard Ingoldsby, who held a special role as the High Sheriff of Buckinghamshire in 1606. His mother was Elizabeth Palmer.
Sir Richard was honored by King James I on October 22, 1617. He received the title of Knight, which meant he was a respected figure. This special event happened during a royal visit to his father-in-law's home, Hinchingbrooke House.

Sir Richard Ingoldsby married Elizabeth Cromwell before 1614. Elizabeth was the daughter of Sir Oliver Cromwell of Hinchingbrooke House. Interestingly, Sir Oliver was the uncle and godfather of Oliver Cromwell, who later became a very powerful leader in England, known as the Lord Protector. Elizabeth had been married before and had three sons from her first marriage.
Sir Richard and Elizabeth had twelve children who grew up, and one daughter, Dorothy, who sadly passed away when she was a baby.

- Colonel Sir Richard Ingoldsby (1617-1685): He was a military leader during important times in English history.
- Sir Oliver Ingoldsby (born 1619): He was an officer in the army that supported Parliament. He died during a battle at Pendennis Castle between March and August 1646.
- John Ingoldsby (1621-around 1684): Many thought he died at sea, but he actually moved to America. He settled in Boston in 1640 and is the ancestor of many Ingoldsby families in America. He married Ruth Griffin.
- Ann Ingoldsby (born 1621, buried November 28, 1704): She lived in Ireland. She married Sir Edward Chaloner. His family was also involved in important events of the time.
