Early Life and Education
Richard Meredith was the son of Sir William Meredith, 1st Baronet. His family lived at Leeds Abbey in Kent, England. His mother was Susanna Barker from London.
Richard went to Queens' College, Cambridge for his education. Later, he studied law at Gray's Inn starting in 1649.
Becoming a Member of Parliament
In 1656, Richard Meredith was chosen to be a Member of Parliament (MP) for Kent. This was during a time called the Second Protectorate Parliament.
Later, in 1659, he was elected again as an MP. This time he represented Sandwich in the Third Protectorate Parliament.
Family and Legacy
When his father passed away in 1675, Richard became the 2nd Baronet. He then lived at Leeds Castle. Sir Richard Meredith died in 1679 and was buried at Leeds Church on September 5, 1679.
He married Susanna Skippon in 1655. Her father was Philip Skippon. Sir Richard had several sons. Three of his sons, William, Richard, and Roger, became Baronets after him. Two of his sons, Roger and Thomas, also became Members of Parliament, just like their father.
