Sir Richard Wynn, 4th Baronet (1625–1674) was an important figure in Welsh history. He served as the Sheriff of Caernarvonshire, which was like a chief law enforcement officer for the county. He also represented Caernarvonshire twice as a member of Parliament, helping to make laws for the country.

Life and Public Service

Sir Richard Wynn took over the family estate at Gwydir in 1660 after his father, Sir Owen Wynn, passed away. His mother was Grace Williams, who was related to the Archbishop of York, a very important church leader.

Sir Richard held the role of Sheriff of Caernarvonshire in 1657 and 1658. This was a key position in local government. He also served as a Member of Parliament (MP) for Caernarvonshire two times. He was an MP in the Rump Parliament from 1647 to 1653 and again in the Cavalier Parliament from 1661 to 1675. These were different periods in English history when Parliament had different forms and powers.

During his life, Sir Richard was held for a time at Caernarvon Castle. This happened during a period of political unrest in England. It's thought he might have been involved in events related to the Royalist Booth's Uprising in 1659, as his father-in-law, Sir Thomas Myddelton, was part of it.

Sir Richard Wynn passed away in 1674. After his death, his cousin, Sir John Wynn, 5th Baronet, inherited his title. Sir John was the son of Henry Wynn, who was the tenth son of the first baronet in their family line.

Family Life

In 1654, Sir Richard Wynn married Sarah Myddelton. She was the daughter of Sir Thomas Myddelton. Sir Richard and Sarah had one child, a daughter named Mary, who was born in 1661.

Mary inherited the Gwydir estate when her father died in 1674. She later married Robert Bertie in 1689. Robert Bertie was a very important person, known as the 17th Lord Willoughby de Eresby. He later became the 1st Duke of Ancaster and Kesteven. Mary passed away in 1689.
