Sir Robert Fitzwygram, 2nd Baronet (born Robert Wigram) was an important person in British history. He was a Director of the Bank of England. He also served as a Tory politician. He was born on September 25, 1773, and passed away on December 17, 1843. He was also a Fellow of the Royal Society, which is a group of top scientists.

Early Life and Family
Robert Fitzwygram was the oldest son of Lady Eleanor and Sir Robert Wigram, 1st Baronet. His father was a successful merchant and shipbuilder. A merchant buys and sells goods, and a shipbuilder constructs ships. Robert had many brothers. Some of his brothers were also well-known. For example, Joseph Cotton Wigram became a bishop. His brother Octavius Wigram was important in the City of London. He worked for Lloyd's of London and was a Governor of the Royal Exchange Assurance Company.
Career and Public Service
Robert Fitzwygram worked with his father in the shipping business. They owned several ships that hunted whales in the South Sea. This was part of the Southern whale fishery. He also showed interest in education and knowledge. He helped to start the London Institution in 1805. This institution was a place for learning and research.
Political Journey
In 1806, Robert followed his father into Parliament. He became a Member of Parliament for Fowey. He was a Director of the Bank of England. This meant he helped manage the country's money. He was also made a knight on May 7, 1818. This gave him the title "Sir."
In 1829, he was elected to represent Wexford Borough. However, his election was challenged. He lost his seat after a special review. He was elected again in 1830. But he lost his seat once more in 1831 after another challenge. When his father passed away in 1830, Robert inherited the title of Baronet. This is a special hereditary title. In 1832, he officially changed his last name to FitzWygram.
Personal Life
In 1812, Robert Fitzwygram married Selina Hayes. She was the youngest daughter of Sir John Macnamara Hayes. Robert and Selina had several children together.
Their children included:
- Robert Fitzwygram Wigram (1813–1873): He inherited the baronetcy after his father.
- Selina Frances Fitzwygram (1815–1890).
- Frederick Wellington John Fitzwygram (1823–1904): He later inherited the baronetcy.
- John Fitzroy Wigram (1827–1881): He became a Reverend.
- Loftus Adam Fitzwygram (1832–1904).
After Sir Robert Fitzwygram passed away, his oldest son, Robert, became the 3rd Baronet. However, he did not have any children. So, the baronetcy later passed to Sir Robert's third son, Frederick. Frederick became the 4th Baronet.
