Sir Robert Throckmorton was the oldest son of John Throckmorton (1580-1615) and Agnes Wilford. His family had a long history in England.
His grandfather was Sir Robert Throckmorton (1513-1581). Unlike some other families during the Reformation (a time of big changes in religion), the Throckmorton family stayed true to the Roman Catholic faith. They continued to follow this religion for many generations. Their main homes were Coughton Court in Warwickshire and Weston Underwood, Buckinghamshire.
