Sir Rose Price, 1st Baronet (born November 21, 1768 – died September 24, 1834) was an important British landowner. He owned large farms, called plantations, in the Caribbean. He also held the special title of a baronet and lived in Cornwall, England.

Sir Rose Price: A British Landowner

Sir Rose Price became a baronet, which is a special title given by the British Crown. It's like being a knight, but the title can be passed down in the family. He was the very first person in his family to receive this honor.

His Life and Work

When his father passed away in 1797, Rose Price took over several large plantations in Jamaica. These plantations grew different crops and raised animals.

  • Mickleton Penn: This plantation produced sugar and rum. In 1799, it had 34 enslaved people working there.
  • Spring Garden: This farm focused on growing corn and raising animals like steers, mules, horses, and sheep.
  • Cocoree: When he first inherited it, this plantation was 580 acres. Rose Price later bought four more sections, each 300 acres.
  • Worthy Park: This plantation grew sugarcane and also made sugar and rum.

In 1813, Price bought a place called Trengwainton. He lived nearby at Kenegie in Gulval until 1817. During this time, he rebuilt the house and beautiful gardens at Trengwainton. Mr. George Brown helped him with this project.

While he was rebuilding Trengwainton, he received his special title. The Price Baronetcy, which is the family title, was created on May 30, 1815. It was linked to Trengwainton, in the area of Madron.

His Family

Sir Rose Price was the only child of John Price and Elizabeth Williams Brammer. In 1795, he married Elizabeth Lambart. She was the daughter of Charles Lambart and Frances Dutton.

Sir Rose Price and Elizabeth had many children. Some records say they had 10 children, while others say 14. Here are some of their children:

  • Rose Lambart (1799–1826)
