Samuel Brudenell Fludyer (born 1759, died 1833) was an English politician. He was born into a very rich and important family. His father, Sir Samuel Fludyer, 1st Baronet, was a wealthy businessman. His mother, Caroline Brudenell, came from a noble family, being the niece of the Earl of Cardigan. Samuel became a Member of Parliament, which means he was elected to help make laws for the country. However, he was not known for speaking much in Parliament.

Early Life and Education

Samuel Brudenell Fludyer was born on October 8, 1759. He was the first son of Samuel Fludyer and his second wife. He went to Westminster School starting in 1771. After school, he went on a "Grand Tour" of Europe. This was a long trip that young, wealthy men often took to learn about art, history, and culture.

Becoming a Baronet

Samuel inherited his father's title, a baronetcy, when he was still a child in 1768. A baronet is a special title that is passed down in families, similar to a knight but hereditary.

Joining Parliament

In May 1781, Samuel was elected to Parliament for a place called Aldeburgh. He was quite young when he became a Member of Parliament. However, when the next election happened in 1784, he was not chosen to be a Member of Parliament again.

Military Service

Samuel also served in the military. On June 25, 1781, he became an ensign in the Monmouthshire Militia. An ensign was a junior officer who carried the flag. He was later promoted to captain in 1799. By 1805, he became a lieutenant-colonel. He left the military in 1812.

Family Life

On October 5, 1786, Samuel Brudenell Fludyer married his cousin, Maria. She was the daughter of Robert Weston. Samuel and Maria had four children together. Their son, Samuel Fludyer, 3rd Baronet, later inherited his father's title. They also had three daughters named Maria, Caroline-Louise, and Charlotte. Sadly, Charlotte died when she was young.

Later Life and Legacy

Samuel Brudenell Fludyer passed away on February 17, 1833. He died in a town called Felixstowe in Suffolk. Today, he is mostly remembered because a hotel in Felixstowe, the Fludyer Arms, was named after him. He did not leave behind many other famous achievements.
