Sir Thomas Hanmer, 2nd Baronet (1612–1678) was an English politician. He served in the English Parliament in 1640, and again from 1669 to 1678. During the English Civil War, he was a Royalist, meaning he supported King Charles I. He even helped the King by gathering soldiers. Outside of politics, he was very interested in gardening. He is not to be confused with his grandson, Sir Thomas Hanmer, 4th Baronet.
Early Life and Royal Service
Thomas Hanmer was born in 1612. He was the oldest son of Sir John Hanmer, 1st Baronet. His father was also a Member of Parliament. From 1625 to 1627, Thomas worked as a page for King Charles I. Later, he became the King's cupbearer. This meant he served drinks to the King. Thomas was also very keen on gardening. He often wrote letters to other gardeners to share ideas.
When his father passed away, Thomas became the 2nd Baronet Hanmer. In April 1640, he was chosen to be a Member of Parliament for Flint Boroughs. This was for a short time, in what was called the Short Parliament.
Supporting the King
Even though his uncle supported Parliament, Thomas was a strong supporter of King Charles I. He was the King's cup-bearer. King Charles I even suggested that Thomas Hanmer should become a vice-president of Wales.
In 1669, Thomas Hanmer was elected to Parliament again. This time, he represented Flintshire. He held this position until he died in 1678.
Family and Descendants
Sir Thomas Hanmer was married two times. His first wife was Elizabeth Baker. They had two children who survived. Their son, John, later became the 3rd Baronet. They also had a daughter named Trevor (1636-1670). She married Sir John Warner.

When he was 15, he went to Pembroke College, Oxford. William married Peregrina. She was the daughter of Sir Sir Henry North, 1st Baronet.
William and Peregrina had two children. Their daughter, Susanna (1676–1744), married Sir Henry Bunbury, 3rd Baronet. Their son, also named Thomas, later became the 4th Baronet. John, the 3rd Baronet, died in 1701 without having any children. Since his younger brother William had already passed away, William's son Thomas inherited the baronetcy.
