Early Life and Education

Thomas Mildmay was the oldest son of Sir Thomas Mildmay and Lady Frances Radclyffe. He grew up in Moulsham. Like many young men from important families, he went to university to get a good education. He studied at two famous colleges at Cambridge University: Queens' College, Cambridge in 1589 and Corpus Christi College, Cambridge in 1590.

A Career in Politics

Sir Thomas Mildmay became a Member of Parliament (MP) in 1593. An MP is a person elected to represent an area in the country's main law-making body, the Parliament. He represented the town of Maldon. Being an MP meant he helped make decisions and laws for England. In 1603, he was given the title of "Knight" by the King.

Becoming a Baronet

In 1611, Sir Thomas Mildmay received an even higher honor. He was made a "Baronet." A Baronet is a special title that was created by King James I. It is a hereditary title, meaning it can be passed down through the family, usually from father to son. Sir Thomas was the very first Baronet in his family.

Family Life

Sir Thomas Mildmay was married two times. His first wife was Elizabeth, who was the daughter of Sir John Puckering. Later, he married Ann, who was the daughter of Sir John Savile. However, Sir Thomas Mildmay did not have any children. Because of this, when he passed away in 1626, the special title of Baronet could not be passed on. The title ended with him.
