Sir Thomas Spring, 3rd Baronet (born around 1672, died April 2, 1704) was an important English landowner. He lived at Pakenham Hall in Pakenham, Suffolk. He held the title of Baronet and also served as the High Sheriff of Suffolk in 1696.

About Sir Thomas Spring

Sir Thomas Spring was the oldest son of Sir William Spring, 2nd Baronet and Sarah Cordell. His mother, Sarah, was the daughter of Sir Robert Cordell, 1st Baronet.

He went to Christ's College, Cambridge for his education. When his father passed away in 1684, Thomas inherited his father's title and all his family's land.

His Family and Children

On May 23, 1691, Sir Thomas Spring married Hon. Merolina Jermyn. She was a daughter of Thomas Jermyn, 2nd Baron Jermyn and Mary Merry. Merolina also inherited wealth from Henry Jermyn, 1st Baron Dover.

Sir Thomas and Merolina had nine children together. They had three sons and six daughters:

  • Thomas Spring (who died in 1694)
  • Merolina Spring (who also died in 1694)
  • Merolina Spring (1695–1761): She married Thomas Discipline from Bury St Edmunds. She inherited the Pakenham estate. You can still see a special memorial for her husband, Thomas Discipline, in Pakenham church.
  • Sir William Spring, 4th Baronet (1697–1736): He was Sir Thomas's only surviving son. William never married. He left his estates to his two surviving sisters, Merolina and Mary. However, his uncle, Sir John Spring, became the next Baronet.
  • Mary Spring (1698–1765): She married Reverend John Symonds. They had two sons who became well-known: John Symonds (an academic) and Thomas Symonds (a Royal Navy officer). Mary was also the grandmother of Admiral Sir William Symonds.
  • Penelope Spring (1700–1707)
  • Jermyn Spring (who died when he was 17 years old)
  • Henrietta Maria Spring (who died in January 1733): She never married.
  • Delariviera Spring (who died on February 1, 1733): She also never married.

Death and What Happened Next

Sir Thomas Spring was buried on April 6, 1704, at Pakenham parish church.

His only surviving son, Sir William Spring, 4th Baronet, inherited his title. When Sir William died in 1736 without marrying, the title of Baronet went to his uncle, Sir John Spring, 5th Baronet (1674–1740). However, Sir William's estates (his lands and property) were passed on to his two sisters, Merolina and Mary, not to his uncle.
