Early Life and Political Start
Thomas Trevor was the son of Sir Thomas Trevor. His father was an important judge called the Lord Baron of the Exchequer. In 1640, the younger Thomas Trevor became an auditor. This meant he checked financial records for the Duchy of Lancaster.
Becoming a Member of Parliament
In November 1640, Thomas Trevor was chosen to be a Member of Parliament (MP). He represented the area of Monmouth in a special Parliament. This Parliament was known as the Long Parliament.
At first, there was a problem with his election. Another person, William Watkins, was also declared elected. This was called a "double return." Some voters complained about the result. Because of this, William Watkins had to stop being an MP for a while.
Becoming a Baronet
While the election issue was being sorted out, Thomas Trevor received a special honor. On 11 August 1641, he was made a Baronet. A Baronet is a title of honor, like a knight, that can be passed down in a family. His title was "of Enfield in Middlesex."
Changes in Parliament
In November 1644, his election for Monmouth was finally cancelled. This meant it was declared "void" or invalid. By this time, the English Civil War had started. Because of the war, Parliament stopped holding special elections to fill empty seats.
When these elections started again, Trevor was elected as an MP for Tregony in 1647. However, he was later removed from Parliament in December of that year. This event was known as Pride's Purge.
After the Civil War
After the Civil War ended and the king returned to power, this period was called the Restoration. At the coronation of King Charles II, Thomas Trevor received another honor. He was made a Knight of the Bath. Sir Thomas Trevor passed away in February 1676.
Family Life
Sir Thomas Trevor married Anne Jenner around 1632. Anne was the daughter of Robert Jenner, who was a successful silver merchant in London. Later, he married a second time to Mary Hortrey. Sir Thomas Trevor did not have any children. Because of this, his Baronet title ended when he died. His properties and lands were passed on to Sir Charles Wheler. Sir Charles was the grandson of Mary, who was Sir Thomas Trevor's father's sister.
