Early Life and Family

William Glynne was the son of Sir John Glynne. His father was a very important judge, known as the Lord Chief Justice, during a time when England was called the Commonwealth. This was a period when England was run as a republic, without a king.

A Career in Politics

William Glynne started his political career by representing Caernarfon in a group called the Third Protectorate Parliament.

Both William and his father, Sir John, supported Charles II when he became king again during the Restoration. This was when the monarchy was brought back to England.

After the king returned, William was again chosen to represent Caernarfon in the Convention Parliament. Because of his support and service, King Charles II made him a Baronet on May 20, 1661. His title was "Baronet, of Bisseter, Oxfordshire."
