Sitka, Ohio facts for kids
Sitka is a small place in Washington County, in the state of Ohio, United States. It is called an "unincorporated community." This means it is a group of homes and businesses that does not have its own official town government.
History of Sitka
Sitka once had its own post office. This post office helped people send and receive mail. It was open for many years, from 1890 until 1916.
The community of Sitka was named after a place far away: Sitka, Alaska. A local family in Ohio had a son, Joseph T. Bukey, who was serving in the U.S. Army in Alaska. The community chose to name itself Sitka to remember this connection to Alaska.
