How We Measure Size
We often measure size using things like length, width, and depth. When we multiply these numbers, we find the volume. Volume tells us the total space an object fills.
Example with Meters
Imagine two boxes:
- A yellow box is 2 metres long, 3 metres wide, and 1 metre deep. Its volume is 6 cubic metres (2 x 3 x 1 = 6).
- A green box is 3 metres long, 3 metres wide, and 1 metre deep. Its volume is 9 cubic metres (3 x 3 x 1 = 9).
The green box is larger in size than the yellow box because it has a bigger volume.
Example with Feet
Now, let's look at two more boxes:
- A red box is 2 feet long, 3 feet wide, and 1 foot deep. Its volume is 6 cubic feet (2 x 3 x 1 = 6).
- A blue box is 3 feet long, 3 feet wide, and 1 foot deep. Its volume is 9 cubic feet (3 x 3 x 1 = 9).
The blue box is larger in size than the red box.
