SkyRise Miami is a very tall building being built in Miami, Florida. It will be an exciting place for entertainment and a great spot to see amazing views. This tower is located right by the water, on the shore of Biscayne Bay.
The idea for SkyRise Miami came from a real estate developer named Jeff Berkowitz. His company, Berkowitz Development Group, is leading the project. The city of Miami and its voters approved the plan in 2014. Some of the money for this huge project might come from investors who want to live in the United States.
How Tall Will SkyRise Miami Be?
When finished, SkyRise Miami will be about 301.8 metres (990 ft) tall. This will make it the tallest building in both Miami and the entire state of Florida.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is a government group that makes sure air travel is safe. They check how tall buildings can be, especially near airports. The FAA approved SkyRise Miami to be 990 feet (302 m) above the ground. This is about 1,000 feet (305 m) above sea level.
The First Idea for the Tower
Before it was called SkyRise Miami, the project had a different name and plan. It was first proposed as "Solar Universe" by a company called High Point Energy.
This original idea was for a tower that could make its own energy. It would have used clean energy sources like solar power, wind power, and water power. The plan included 11 wind turbines on one side of the tower. It also had solar panels covering a large part of its southern side.
In 2012, the rights to this project were sold to Jeffrey Berkowitz. He first changed the name to Skyhigh Miami. Then, in 2013, he changed it again to SkyRise Miami, which is what it's called today.
