The Sky News Weather Channel is an Australian TV channel. It shows weather news all day, every day! It's owned by a company called Australian News Channel. This channel started way back on January 1, 1999.

You can watch it for 15-minute blocks. These blocks show local, national, and regional weather forecasts. They also share information about dam levels and rainfall. If there's really bad weather, like a big storm, they will show continuous updates.

The Sky News Weather Channel also shows a morning TV program. It's called Sky News Breakfast. You can watch it on weekdays from 6 AM to 8:30 AM.

How the Weather Channel Started

The Sky News Weather Channel first started broadcasting on January 1, 1999. Back then, it had a different name: "Weather 21". It was channel 21 on Austar TV.

"Weather 21" was created by two companies. One was Cox Inall Communications. The other was a weather company called The Weather Company. Austar owned the channel. The shows were made for people living in the countryside.

The first presenters were Allan Humphries, Lyndal Davies, and meteorologist Mark Hardy. They broadcast live from 6 AM to 10 PM every day. Overnight, the channel played an automatic loop of forecasts, satellite, and radar, with music.

New Name and More Shows

In early 2000, the channel's name changed to "The Weather Channel". It was no longer on channel 21. The live shows became longer. More presenters joined, like Tracey Malmborg, Jaynie Seal, Rebecca LeTourneau, and Garry Youngberry.

In 2003, Austar sold the channel to XYZ Networks. "The Weather Channel" then became available on Foxtel. It changed to better suit people living in cities. Foxtel also added an interactive weather app called Weather Active.

In 2004, the channel made big changes. It got a new logo and new graphics. The TV shows changed, too. There was also a new version of the Weather Active app. In June 2008, the channel updated its graphics again.

The weather information you see on the channel comes from Metra Information Limited. It also gets information from the Australian Bureau of Meteorology.

Becoming Sky News Weather

In 2012, two big TV companies, Foxtel and Austar, joined together. Because of this, the company XYZ Networks was closed. It was announced that Sky News Australia would take over "The Weather Channel".

On January 25, 2013, "The Weather Channel" officially changed its name. It became Sky News Weather.

Digital Weather Services

If you have Foxtel or Austar digital TV, you can use a special weather service. This service gives you local weather information. You can find out about current conditions and marine reports. It also shows dam information and a 28-day rain forecast.

You can also see forecasts for your city or postcode. The service includes a state radar, national satellite, and a national lightning tracker.
