Mwila Musonda (born April 27, 1987), known to his fans as Slapdee, is a famous Zambian hip hop and rap artist. He started his music journey in 2006. Slapdee has won many awards and is seen as one of the first and most important hip hop artists in Zambia.
Early Life and School Days
Slapdee grew up with his aunt. He had lost his parents and brother. Because of his aunt's job, he moved around a lot. He even went to schools in countries like Botswana and South Africa.
When Slapdee returned to Zambia for high school, he met another future musician named Hamoba. They became friends and started making music together. Slapdee has also helped many new artists get noticed.
Slapdee's Music Career
Slapdee's music career began in 2006. He released his first song, "Asembe Isebenza." This song caught the attention of a music promoter named Sync. Slapdee then released his first album, also called Asembe Isebenza. It became popular on the radio and created a buzz in the hip hop world.
Even though his first album wasn't a huge hit, Slapdee kept going. He released his second album, So Che. This album had popular songs like Solola and Takwaba. He also worked with singer Sutu on songs like Disposable and Kamba Che.
In 2009, Slapdee released his third album, Black na White. This album was very successful. It included hit songs such as Gold Digger, Fo’Shizzy, and Chishinka.
Slapdee has released seven studio albums in total. These include Asembe Isebenza, So Che, Black na White, True Story, The Business, Black na White 2 (BW2), and Mother Tongue. Slapdee is signed to a Zambian record label called XYZ Entertainments. He actually started this record label himself!
Awards and Achievements
Slapdee has received many awards and nominations for his music. In 2009, he won the Ngoma Music Award for Best Hip Hop Artist. He was also nominated for an AFRIMMA Award for Best Male Artist in Southern Africa. He has won nine ZMA awards for Best Male and Hip Hop Artist. Slapdee also won six Sun FM Kwacha Music Awards, taking home three in 2017 and three in 2018.
At the 2013 Zambia Music Awards, his album The Business won Slapdee six awards! These included Song of the Year, Best Hip Hop Album, and Best Male Album. Slapdee's influence on Zambian music is so strong that in 2016, even before his album Black na White 2 was released, his fans nominated it for Best Hip Hop Album at the Zambia Music Awards.
Slapdee's music career was also recognized with an award at the MTV Africa Music Awards. He made history as the first Zambian rapper to win at the country's Ngoma Awards. These awards celebrate Zambia's art industry.

In 2019, Slapdee was featured on CNN's African Voices CHANGEMAKERS. The show highlighted how this multi-award-winning Zambian hip hop artist helps local kids in Zambia. He does this through his record label and by raising money for orphanages and children's hospitals.
