Slime Time was a fun game show that aired on Saturdays from June 11 to September 3, 1988. It was a lot like another popular show called Double Dare. The show's host was a comedian named Marty Cohen. He always dressed up like a referee! Dean Goss was the announcer who told everyone what was happening.

Slime Time often aired right before or after another kids' game show called Treasure Mall. Both shows started on the same day, June 11, and ended about 13 weeks later.

How the Game Worked

In Slime Time, two teams competed against each other. Each team had three students and one teacher. They were all representing their school!

Starting the Game

To kick off the first round, both teams played a quick "toss-up" stunt. The team that won this stunt earned $25. After the stunt, one kid from each team answered a toss-up question. If you buzzed in and got the answer right, your team won $25. You also got to pick the next stunt! But if you answered wrong, the other team got the money and the choice of stunt.

Mr. Slimehead's Choices

Each stunt was shown on a giant head on the stage. This head was called "Mr. Slimehead." Different parts of his face, like his eyes, ears, or nostrils, would flash. Kids could pick any flashing part. A card would then pop out of Mr. Slimehead's mouth, describing the stunt. Some stunts even had cool prizes hidden behind them! If your team picked a stunt with a prize, you got to keep it, no matter if you won or lost the stunt.

Round One and Two

The first round finished after the teams had picked and completed two stunts. In the second round, the money you could win doubled! New stunts appeared on Mr. Slimehead, and there were even better prizes up for grabs. This round continued until a buzzer sounded.

The Final Slime Round

The last round was the most exciting! The teachers stood under a "slime faucet." This faucet moved back and forth over each teacher's head. All the kids were asked toss-up questions. Anyone could buzz in to answer. If you got a question right, your team won $100. But if you answered wrong, the other team got the $100. The first team to reach $1,000 or more won the game!

After the game, the slime faucet would stop right over the losing team's teacher. Then, gallons of thick, green slime would dump all over them! The winning team received a big prize package. Both teams got to keep the money they earned. The team that didn't win still got a smaller prize package.

Exciting Stunts and Challenges

Slime Time had many messy and fun stunts. Here are a few examples:

  • Meat-A-Balls: Each team member had a big plate of spaghetti with one meatball hidden inside. When the host said "go," they had to put their face in the spaghetti. The goal was to pick up the meatball using only their teeth! The first team to find all their meatballs won.
  • Thread The Needle: Kids had to throw balloons filled with slime to their teacher. The teacher had to catch them and put them in a bucket. The tricky part? Each balloon had to go through a large hoop. This hoop had nails around its edge and was placed right above the teacher's head! The team with the most balloons in 20 seconds won.
  • Through The Looking Glass: Each kid got a small mirror and a cup of slime. They stood with their backs to their teachers, who sat on the floor with a big bowl on their head. The kids had to pour the slime into the bowl without turning their heads or bodies. They used the mirror to see where the slime was going. The team with more slime in their bowl after 20 seconds won. They also got to dump their slime bowl over the losing teacher's head!
  • Other games included: Fortune Cookie, Butterflies are Free, Bobbing for Worms, Peanut Butter Sandwich, Stitch in Time, Leave it to Beaver, Cymbal of my Love, Fly in my Soup, Dumbo Meets Pinocchio, Pie in the Sky, Chicken Little, Save the Spider, Can You Top This?, Snake Pit, Up To Your Elbows, and a fan favorite called Tanks-A-Lot.

Most timed stunts on the show lasted for 20 seconds, unless it was noted otherwise.
