Treasure Mall was a fun game show made just for kids! It was shown on TV once a week from June 11 to September 3, 1988. The host was Hal Sparks, and Ed MacKay was the announcer.
It often aired with another kids' game show called Slime Time. Both shows started and ended on the same days. Treasure Mall was special because it was the very first shopping game show made for children!

How the Game Was Played
Two teams played the game. Each team had one boy and one girl. They competed to win prizes!
Round One: Survey Questions
In the first round, teams answered survey questions. These questions were about what sixth graders would do in different situations. For example, "We asked sixth graders what they would do if they saw a bug on their friend's shoulder. Would they brush it off, tell their friend, or wait and see what happens?"
- Each teammate chose what they thought was the most popular answer.
- If a teammate picked the right answer, their team got one point.
- If both teammates chose correctly, their team earned two points!
- The first team to reach 5 points or more won the chance to go into a special store in the Treasure Mall.
- If there was a tie at 5 points or more, the game continued until one team was clearly ahead.
Exploring the Stores
Every store in the mall had a cool theme, like a Toy Store or a Fashion Boutique. Each store was divided into four areas. There were 4 coins hidden in each area.
- Each teammate searched two areas. They took turns doing this.
- One teammate had 25 seconds to search their area for coins. They had to drop the coins into a bucket that Hal Sparks was holding.
- The coins only counted if they went into the bucket!
- When the time ran out (a bell rang), the clock reset to 25 seconds. The other teammate immediately started searching their next area.
- After the final buzzer, all the coins were counted.
- The team won prizes based on how many coins they found. More coins meant better prizes!
- If a team found all 16 coins, they won two very valuable prizes!
Round Two and Winning the Game
Round Two was played just like Round One. The winning team got to enter a different store. The team with the most coins at the end of this round won the game. If one team won both rounds, they also won the game. If both teams had the same number of coins, they played one more survey question to decide the winner. The winning team moved on to the bonus round!
The Bonus Round: Treasure Chest Challenge
In the bonus round, there were many gift boxes in front of a big, shiny golden treasure chest.
- Inside the gift boxes were keys.
- The team had 30 seconds to open the boxes and collect as many keys as they could.
- Just like the coins, the keys had to go into the bucket Hal Sparks was holding to count.
- After time ran out, Hal Sparks tried each key in the treasure chest.
- If one of the keys opened the chest, the team won a huge prize package! When the chest opened, balloons and confetti would burst out!
- Even if no key opened the chest, the team still won a $50 gift certificate for each key they found. Plus, they got to keep all the prizes they won earlier in the game!
Show's End
Treasure Mall stopped airing on September 3, 1988. It had been on TV for about four months.
