What Was Smile?
Smile was a rock band formed in 1968. It was the first band for two of its members who later became very famous in Queen. The band played music together for about two years before changing.

- Tim Staffell: He played the bass guitar and was the lead singer. Tim was a friend of Brian May from college.
From Smile to Queen
Smile played several concerts and even recorded a few songs. However, they didn't become very famous at the time. In 1970, Tim Staffell decided to leave Smile to join another band called Humpy Bong.
After Tim left, Brian May and Roger Taylor were looking for a new singer. Their friend, Freddie Mercury (who was known as Freddie Bulsara back then), was a big fan of Smile and often went to their shows. Freddie joined them as the new lead singer. With Freddie's amazing voice and stage presence, the band decided to change their name to Queen, and the rest is history!
