Smith Inlet is a long, narrow arm of the sea that reaches inland. It is located on the Central Coast of British Columbia, Canada. This area is known for its beautiful natural scenery.
Smith Inlet and the nearby Smith Sound are special places. They are the traditional home of the Gwaʼsala people. The Gwaʼsala are a group within the larger Kwakwakaʼwakw First Nations. They are sometimes called the Smith Inlet people.
The Nekite Indian Reserve No. 2 is found at the very end of Smith Inlet. This reserve is managed by the Gwaʼsala-ʼNakwaxdaʼxw Nations. It is located where the Nekite River flows into the inlet.
Smith Inlet is also known as the childhood home of two famous people. These are figure skater and magician Greg Ladret, and world and Olympic team member Doug Ladret.
A Look Back in Time
Smith Inlet was first mapped in 1792. This was done by Peter Puget and Joseph Whidbey. They were officers working with George Vancouver during his big expedition from 1791 to 1795.
