Smoot is a small community in Lincoln County, Wyoming, United States. It is called a census-designated place (CDP). This means it's an area that the government counts as a place for the census, but it doesn't have its own city government. In 2010, about 195 people lived there.

Where is Smoot Located?
Smoot is found in a beautiful area called the Star Valley in Wyoming. It sits very high up, at 6,611 feet (about 2,015 meters) above sea level. This is like being on top of a really tall mountain! Smoot is about 8 miles south of a town called Afton.
The total area of Smoot is about 1.7 square miles (4.5 square kilometers). All of this area is land, with no large lakes or rivers inside the community itself.
What is the Climate Like in Smoot?
The weather in Smoot is quite interesting because of its high elevation. South of Smoot, there's a place called Salt River Pass. This pass reaches an elevation of 7,630 feet (2,326 meters).
The weather station at Salt River Pass shows that the area has a humid continental climate. This means it has warm summers and cold winters. It's also very close to a subarctic climate, which means the winters are extra long and very cold. You can expect a lot of snow in Smoot during the winter months!
