The story of Snyder's of Hanover began a long time ago. In 1909, a bakery was started in Hanover, Pennsylvania. Harry Warehime was the person who founded it. Later, in 1920, Eda and Edward Snyder began selling their own homemade potato chips. They sold these chips to different businesses.

Growing and Changing

In 1950, the company split into two separate businesses. One became Snyder's of Hanover. The other was called Snyder of Berlin. In 1961, a company called Hanover Canning Company bought Snyder's of Hanover. This company later changed its name to Hanover Foods.

Snyder's of Hanover became an independent company again in 1981. It is important to know that Snyder's of Hanover is not connected to Snyder of Berlin anymore. You can often see this information on their snack packages.

New Partnerships

In December 2007, Snyder's of Hanover bought Jays Foods. Jays Foods was a snack company from Chicago, Illinois. Snyder's of Hanover planned to keep making and selling Jays' snacks. These snacks were popular in the middle part of the United States.

In 2010, Snyder's of Hanover wanted to join with another snack company, Utz Quality Foods. However, the U.S. Federal Trade Commission stopped this plan. On July 22, 2010, it was announced that Snyder's of Hanover would merge with Lance Inc.. This merger created one of the biggest snack food companies in the country. The new company was named Snyder's-Lance. Its main office was in Charlotte, North Carolina.

In December 2017, a big food company called Campbell Soup announced it would buy Snyder's-Lance. This deal was worth about $4.9 billion. Later, in 2019, Utz Foods did merge with a company that had a similar name, Snyder of Berlin. But remember, Snyder of Berlin was not connected to Snyder's of Hanover.
