The Story of Sohat Water
How the Spring Was Found
In 1910, an archeologist named Habib Zoghzoghy made an exciting discovery. While he was digging up old Roman ruins in a place called Falougha, he found the Ain Sohat spring again. "Ain" means "spring" in Arabic.
Sohat's Journey to the World
In the late 1980s, Sohat water was sold in the United States. A company from New York helped distribute it there. This helped Sohat become known outside of Lebanon.
Becoming Part of Nestlé
The company that makes Sohat, called Société des Eaux Minérales Libanaises S.A.L., started in 1970. In 1997, with help from Nestlé, they built a new factory in Falougha. This factory could bottle 19,200 bottles of water every hour!
In 1999, the Nestlé Group bought almost half of Sohat. This was part of Nestlé's plan to grow its mineral water business. Then, in 2001, Nestlé bought the rest of the company. This meant that Sohat became fully owned by Nestlé. The Zoghzoghy family, who had run the water business for 50 years, sold their share.
