The Story of Sohat Water
How the Spring Was Found
In 1910, an archaeologist named Habib Zoghzoghy made an exciting discovery. He was exploring old Roman ruins in a place called Falougha. During his work, he found the Ain Sohat spring again.
Building the Company
The company that makes Sohat water is called Société des Eaux Minérales Libanaises S.A.L. This company was started in 1970. For many years, it was a family business.
A New Factory and Nestlé's Role
In 1997, the Sohat company built a new factory in Falougha. This factory was very modern and could bottle 19,200 bottles of water every hour. They got help from Nestlé to build it.
Later, in 1999, Nestlé Group bought 49% of the Sohat company. This was part of Nestlé's plan to grow its bottled water business. By 2001, Nestlé's water division, Lebanon Perrier Vittel, bought the rest of the company. This meant that Nestlé S.A. owned all of Sohat.
