Sohu, Inc. (Chinese: 搜狐; pinyin: Sōuhú; literally "Search-fox") is a major internet company from China. Its main office is in Beijing. Sohu offers many online services. These include advertising, a search engine called Sogou.com, and online games through ChangYou.com.

The Story of Sohu: How It Started
Sohu was first created in 1996. It was called Internet Technologies China (ITC) back then. A person named Charles Zhang started the company. He had just finished his advanced studies at a famous university called the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He got money from friends he met at MIT to help start his company.
Changing the Name to Sohu
In 1997, Charles Zhang changed the company's name to Sohoo. He did this to honor another big internet company, Yahoo! He had met one of Yahoo!'s founders, Jerry Yang. Soon after, the name was changed again to Sohu. This new name helped make it different from the American company. Since the year 2000, Sohu's shares have been traded on the NASDAQ stock exchange.
Sogou.com: Sohu's Search Engine
Sogou.com is Sohu's own search engine. In 2013, there were talks about selling Sogou.com to another company called Qihoo. However, on September 17, 2013, a different company, Tencent, invested $448 million in Sogou.com. Tencent bought a part of the company.
Sohu's Growth and Success
Sohu grew very quickly in the past. Fortune magazine, which tracks successful companies, ranked Sohu as one of the fastest-growing companies in the world. It was ranked third in 2009 and twelfth in 2010.
Sohu and the Olympic Games
In November 2005, Sohu was chosen for a very special job. It became the Official Internet Content Service Sponsor for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. This meant Sohu had the important task of building, running, and hosting the official website for the Beijing Olympics. They were the only company allowed to do this.
