The Solomon Piper Farm is a very old farmhouse located at 227 Valley Road in Dublin, New Hampshire. It was built around 1794. This farm is a great example of an early "Cape style" house, which is a type of home popular in New England. In 1983, the house was added to the National Register of Historic Places. This means it's an important historical site worth protecting. Solomon Piper's son, Rufus Piper, also had a home nearby called the Rufus Piper Homestead, which is also on the National Register.

Exploring the Solomon Piper Farm

The Solomon Piper Farm is found in a quiet, country area in southeastern Dublin. It sits on the east side of Valley Road, close to Perry Pasture Road.

What Does the Farm Look Like?

This farmhouse is a one-and-a-half story building made of wood. It has a pointed roof (called a gabled roof) and its outside walls are covered with overlapping wooden boards (clapboard). A chimney stands in the middle of the house. The front of the house has five sections with narrow windows. There's also a small addition on the east side. Inside, some original features are still there, like wooden panels on the walls (wainscoting) and decorative wooden strips (chair rails).

Who Was Solomon Piper?

Solomon Piper built this house around 1794. He bought a large piece of land in 1793 from one of the first owners of Dublin. Solomon Piper was the start of an important local family, the Pipers. Many of his family members became public servants, shopkeepers, and doctors in the area.

The farm stayed in the Piper family until the 1850s. Then, it was sold to Charles Perry. His father, Ivory Perry, owned another farm nearby. The farmhouse hasn't changed much over the years. The biggest change was replacing its first large chimney with a smaller one.
