Mall History
The Solomon Pond Mall first opened its doors in 1996. It was one of several malls built along the Interstate 495 highway during the 1980s and 1990s.
When it first opened, the mall seemed to be in a faraway spot. However, its location turned out to be very smart. It was able to attract shoppers from the rich and growing suburbs west of Boston. At the same time, it became the biggest mall for people living in the Worcester area.
The Solomon Pond Mall aimed to offer more fancy stores compared to other malls nearby. It brought in higher-end shops like Victoria's Secret, Swarovski Crystal, and several jewelry stores. Other popular stores that opened there include Coach and the Apple Store.
In 2021, it was announced that the Sears store at the mall would close. It was one of many Sears stores closing across the country at that time. The store officially closed on May 2, 2021.
