History of Somerset
When Was Somerset Established?
The community of Somerset has had a post office since 1848. This shows that people have lived and worked there for a very long time. For a while, Somerset was also known by another name: Springfield.
How Somerset Moved
Something very interesting happened to Somerset. The original community was located near the Mississinewa River. When a dam was built on the Mississinewa River, the area where the first Somerset stood became flooded. Because of this, the entire community had to move to a new location. The old Somerset is now underwater!
