Somersville (sometimes called Summersville) is a small community in Ohio, United States. It's not a city or town with its own government. Instead, it's an unincorporated community. This means it's part of a larger area called York Township in Union County. You can find Somersville where two main roads, Ohio State Routes 31 and 47, meet.
History of Somersville
The community of Somersville was started in 1834. Two people, Thomas Price and William Somers, helped to plan and lay out the area.
Early Services and Shops
In the past, Somersville had its own post office. It was called the Bokes Creek Post Office and opened on April 26, 1850. Amon S. Davis was the first postmaster, who was in charge of the mail. This post office closed on June 30, 1904.
By 1877, Somersville was a busy little place. It had two grocery stores where people could buy food and supplies. There was also a blacksmith shop, where people worked with metal, and a shoe shop to make or fix shoes. The community even had its own doctor, called a physician, to help people who were sick.
Today, Somersville no longer has its own post office. Mail service for the community now comes from the Peoria Post Office, which is nearby.
