History of Somerton, Ohio
Somerton was first planned and settled around the year 1818. The people who founded the community named it after Somerset, a county in England. This was a common practice at the time, as many settlers wanted to remember their homes in Europe. A post office was opened in Somerton in 1827, which helped the community grow and connect with other places by sending and receiving mail.
