Discovering Son Servera
Son Servera was first started in the year 1300. It was founded by James I of Aragon on land that belonged to the Servera family. The town was first written about in records in 1354. Back then, it was called Benicanella.
How Son Servera Grew
Over time, Benicanella split into two smaller towns. These were called Son Fra Garí and Ca l'Hereu. Eventually, these two towns came together to form what we now know as Son Servera.
In 1814, King Ferdinand VII made Son Servera part of the larger area of Arta. Later, in 1920, the town faced a difficult time when many people got sick from a plague. But Son Servera recovered and grew. By 1934, its population reached 1,000 people, and it became its own municipality again.
People and Popular Spots
Today, Son Servera is home to more than 10,000 people. It includes a very popular summer tourist spot called Cala Millor. Many people from Germany love to visit and even live here. Another beautiful place is Costa de los Pinos, which is a favorite summer getaway for many Spanish families.
Fun and Festivals
The town's patron saint is Sant Joan. People celebrate him on June 24th with a big party called a fiesta. This fiesta lasts for a whole week! During this time, there's a local fair, a market where farmers sell their goods, and special stalls for farm products. Local dancers also perform the traditional Mallorcan dance called Ball de bot.
