Soo River facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

The Soo River is a cool river in British Columbia, Canada. It's like a smaller friend to the Green River, joining it near a popular place called Whistler. This river is about 35 kilometers (22 miles) long. It starts high up in the mountains, near the Pemberton Icefield.

The Soo River flows mostly towards the east. But when it gets close to the Green River valley, it turns north for about 3.5 kilometers (2.2 miles) before finally meeting the Green River. A big part of the river, known as the Soo Valley, is a winding marshland. It's like a swampy area with lots of twists and turns. Before joining the Green River, it flows through a short, narrow canyon.

What is the Soo River Valley like?

The Soo Valley has been used for logging for many years. This means trees were cut down there. You can get to the valley by a rough dirt road.

Winter Fun in the Soo Valley

In winter, the Soo Valley is a popular spot for cross-country skiing. People love to ski here because some parts of the valley are easy to reach from the Emerald Estates neighborhood in Whistler. It's a great place to enjoy the snow and nature.

Volcanic Rocks in the Valley
