Sool is a small village in Switzerland. It used to be its own town, called a municipality. Now, it's part of a larger area called Glarus Süd in the canton of Glarus.
Sool's History
Sool is a very old place! It was first written about between the years 1303 and 1307. Back then, it was called soler tagwan.
On January 1, 2011, Sool joined with other towns. It became part of the new and larger municipality of Glarus Süd.
Where Sool Is Located
The village of Sool sits about 637 meters (2,090 feet) above sea level. It is built on land that moved a long, long time ago. This land is between two rivers, the Linth and the Sernf.
The village of Schwanden is below Sool. This is where the two rivers meet.
Sool used to cover a large area of about 13.3 square kilometers (5.1 square miles). This area went north and east of the village. It even reached the top of a mountain called Gufelstock, which is 2,436 meters (7,992 feet) high.

- The rest (33.2%) is made up of rivers, glaciers, or mountains.
Getting Around Sool
The Sernftalbus is a bus service that connects Sool to the Schwanden railway station. The bus runs several times a day.
From Schwanden railway station, you can take a train. This train goes to Glarus, which is the main town of the canton.
People in Sool
Sool has a population of 296 people. As of 2007, about 3.5% of the people living there were from other countries. Over the last 10 years, the number of people in Sool has grown by 2.1%.
Most people in Sool speak German (98.0%). Russian is the second most common language (1.0%), followed by Rhaeto-Romance (0.3%).
In the 2007 national election, the most popular political group was the SPS. They received 80% of the votes. The SVP received 14.4% of the votes.
About 72.9% of adults in Sool (aged 25-64) have finished high school or gone on to higher education. This means they have studied at a university or a special college called a Fachhochschule.
Sool has a low unemployment rate of 1.5%. In 2005, there were 15 people working in farming and 9 businesses related to it. Eight people worked in manufacturing, with 2 businesses. Ten people worked in services, with 4 businesses in that area.
