Sope Aluko (born July 5, 1975) is a talented actress who was born in Nigeria. She is known for her roles in popular movies like Black Panther and Venom. Sope is a British-American actress who has also appeared in many TV shows.
Life and Career
Sope Aluko was born in Nigeria. She grew up in the United Kingdom because her father worked for the government in different countries. This meant she traveled a lot! When she was ten, she started boarding school in the U.K. She later earned a master's degree in Marketing there.
Sope had always wanted to act, but her parents didn't approve at first. Later, she visited America for a holiday and met her future husband by chance. She decided to stay and worked in business for fifteen years. After her parents passed away, she decided to follow her dream of acting again.
Sope shared that when she first started acting, people would often say, "I love your accent, but..." She felt unsure and even tried to change her accent. But one day, she decided to be herself. She realized that her unique accent was a part of who she was. As soon as she accepted this, amazing things started to happen in her career!
Since then, Sope has appeared in many TV shows. These include Bloodline, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Parks and Recreation, and Army Wives. She has also acted in movies like Identity Thief and Pitch Perfect 2.
In 2018, Sope became well-known for her role as a Shaman in the Marvel Studios movie Black Panther. People in her hometown in Nigeria were very proud of her. Sope said that she worked hard to get ready for the role. She even practiced a new accent and made sure she was fit for the physical scenes. Being in Black Panther was a dream come true for her. She later appeared in the movie Venom as Dr. Rosie Collins. In 2022, Sope was chosen for a main role in a new TV series called Bammas on Hulu.
Personal Life
Sope Aluko is married and has two sons. She is a Christian.
Because of her role in Black Panther, the Mayor of Miami-Dade County, Florida, Carlos A. Giménez, declared April 10 as "Sope Aluko Day." This special day celebrates her achievements!
