Sope Aluko was born in Nigeria. She grew up in the United Kingdom. Her father worked in diplomacy, which meant her family traveled a lot. Sope started boarding school at age ten. She studied in the U.K. and earned a master's degree in Marketing.

Sope had always been interested in acting. However, her parents did not approve of it at first. Later, while on holiday in America, she met her future husband. She decided to stay in the U.S. and worked in business for 15 years.

After her parents passed away, Sope decided to follow her dream of acting again. She shared that when she started, people often liked her accent but suggested she change it. She even took classes to try and lose it. But then she realized her accent was part of who she was. The moment she accepted this, her career started to change for the better.
