Sophie Nélisse (born March 27, 2000) is a talented actress from Canada. She became well-known for her amazing acting in the movie Monsieur Lazhar (2011), which won her a Genie Award. Sophie also starred as Liesel Meminger in the movie The Book Thief (2013), based on a very popular book.
She played Caroline in The Kid Detective (2020) and Irena Gut in Irena's Vow (2023). Since 2021, Sophie has been a main star in the TV series Yellowjackets, playing the younger version of a character named Shauna Shipman.

About Sophie's Early Life
Marie-Sophie Nélisse was born in Windsor, Ontario, Canada, on March 27, 2000. Her family has French roots. When Sophie was four, her family moved to Montreal.
Sophie's mother stopped working as a schoolteacher in 2013. She became a talent manager for both Sophie and her younger sister, Isabelle Nélisse, who is also an actress. Sophie speaks both French and English very well.
Sophie's Acting Career
Sophie first trained in gymnastics. She joined a talent agency to help pay for her gymnastics lessons. But after she got a big role in The Book Thief, she decided to focus more on acting.
Besides her Genie Award for Monsieur Lazhar, Sophie also won a Jutra Award for her acting. She was also nominated for a Young Artist Award for her role in an international movie. Sophie had a regular role in the Québec TV show Les Parents . She also played the main character in the 2015 movie The Great Gilly Hopkins. In May 2016, Sophie attended the Cannes Film Festival for the first time to show her Canadian thriller movie Mean Dreams.
In 2016, the Toronto International Film Festival chose Sophie as one of their "Rising Stars." This program helps young actors learn more about the film industry. In June 2018, she became the face of a jewelry line by Caroline Néron.
After finishing high school in June 2017, Sophie decided not to go to college right away. She had commitments to film Close in London and Morocco. Sophie has always been careful about choosing roles that are right for her.
On April 18, 2025, it was announced that Sophie Nélisse and Courtney Eaton bought the film rights to the book Girl in Pieces by Kathleen Glasgow. This means they plan to make a movie based on the book.
Sophie's Personal Life
Sophie's younger sister, Isabelle Nélisse, is also an actress. Isabelle is known for her roles in Mama and the HBO film The Tale. The sisters have also acted together in other projects like Mirador
