Noomi Rapace (born December 28, 1979) is a talented actress from Sweden. She became famous around the world for playing the character Lisbeth Salander in the Swedish movies based on the Millennium book series. These movies included The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Girl Who Played with Fire, and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets' Nest.
For her amazing work in the Millennium series, Noomi Rapace won several awards, like the Guldbagge Award (Sweden's top film award) and a Satellite Award. She was also nominated for a BAFTA Award. After becoming well-known from these films, Rapace started starring in many American movies too.
She has played many different roles, including Anna in Daisy Diamond (2007), Leena in Beyond (2010), and Anna in The Monitor (2011). She also appeared as Madame Simza Heron in Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows (2011) and Elizabeth Shaw in Prometheus (2012) and Alien: Covenant (2017). Early Life and Acting Start
Noomi Rapace was born in Hudiksvall, Sweden, on December 28, 1979. Her mother, Nina Norén, is also a Swedish actress. Her father, Rogelio Durán, was a Spanish flamenco singer.
When she was five years old, Noomi moved to Iceland with her mother and stepfather. Two years later, at age seven, she had her first small acting role in an Icelandic film called In the Shadow of the Raven. This experience made her want to become an actress.
Noomi left home at 15 to attend a theatre school in Stockholm. She can speak several languages fluently, including Icelandic, Danish, Norwegian, and English, along with her native Swedish.

First Roles and Breakthrough
Noomi's first TV role was in the soap opera Tre kronor in 1996. She continued to study acting and perform in various theaters in Stockholm.
In 2007, she received praise for her role as a struggling young mother in the Danish film Daisy Diamond. She won top acting awards in Denmark for this performance.
Her big breakthrough came in 2009 when she played Lisbeth Salander in the Swedish film The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. This role earned her the Guldbagge Award, Sweden's most important film award. She continued playing Lisbeth Salander in the sequels, The Girl Who Played with Fire and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets' Nest. These three films were very successful and made over $200 million worldwide.
Becoming an International Star
After the Millennium series, Noomi Rapace began her international career. Her first role in an English-speaking movie was in Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows in 2011.
She then starred in Ridley Scott's science fiction movie Prometheus (2012), playing the main character, a scientist named Elizabeth Shaw. She also appeared in a short related to the sequel, Alien: Covenant (2017).
In 2013, she starred with Rachel McAdams in the thriller Passion. She also appeared in the crime thriller Dead Man Down alongside Colin Farrell. In 2014, she was in The Drop with Tom Hardy.
Noomi continued to take on exciting roles. In 2015, she played Raisa Demidova in Child 44, again with Tom Hardy. She also starred in the spy thriller Unlocked and the science fiction film What Happened to Monday (released on Netflix). In What Happened to Monday, she played seven different characters!
In 2019, she starred in the action thriller Close and the psychological thriller Angel of Mine. She also joined the cast of the TV series Jack Ryan. In 2020, she starred in The Secrets We Keep.
More recently, in 2021, Noomi Rapace starred in the Icelandic folk horror film Lamb, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival. Her performance in Lamb earned her the Best Actress award at the 2021 Sitges - Catalonian International Film Festival. She also had leading roles in The Trip (2021), You Won’t Be Alone (2022), and Black Crab (2022). In May 2022, Noomi was a member of the jury at the 75th Cannes Film Festival.
Personal Life
Noomi Rapace married Swedish actor Ola Norell in 2001. They decided to use the last name Rapace, which means "bird of prey" in French and Italian, because they thought it sounded cool. They have one son, who was born in 2003. They divorced in 2011.
Noomi Rapace lives in London, England, and has said it is her favorite city.
