Kasabian are a famous English rock band that started in Leicester, England, in 1997. The original members were lead singer Tom Meighan, guitarist Sergio Pizzorno, guitarist Chris Karloff, and bassist Chris Edwards. Later, Ian Matthews joined as the drummer in 2004.

Over the years, some members changed. Chris Karloff left in 2006. Jay Mehler joined as a touring guitarist, and then Tim Carter took his place in 2013, becoming a full member in 2021. Tom Meighan left the band in July 2020, and Sergio Pizzorno became the main singer.

Kasabian has won many awards for their music and live shows. They won "Best Act in the World Today" at the Q Awards twice, and "Best Live Act" at the NME Awards multiple times. Even though their music is often called "indie rock," Sergio Pizzorno doesn't think they fit that label.

The band has released seven studio albums, including Kasabian (2004), Empire (2006), and The Alchemist's Euphoria (2022). Their music is known for being a mix of different rock styles. They also won a Brit Award in 2010 for Best British Group. Their live shows are very popular, and they even headlined the famous Glastonbury Festival in 2014.

How Kasabian Started (1997–2002)

The band first called themselves Saracuse. They began recording their music in Leicester. The original members, Sergio Pizzorno, Tom Meighan, and Chris Edwards, all went to Countesthorpe Community College together. Their first demo was made in 1998.

They got their first record deal with BMG and changed their name to Kasabian. Former guitarist Chris Karloff picked the name because he thought the word sounded "cool." The name Kasabian is actually a common Armenian last name, and it comes from an Arabic word meaning "butcher."

First Album: Kasabian (2003–2005)

Kasabian released their first album, named Kasabian, on September 13, 2004. It sold well and got good reviews. While making the album, the band lived in a farmhouse to focus on their music. They also played at the Glastonbury Festival in 2005.

Their song "Club Foot" became very popular and is still played at almost all of their live concerts. During this time, Ian Matthews joined the band as the permanent drummer in April 2005.

Empire and Changes (2006–2007)

While working on their second album, Empire, guitarist Christopher Karloff left the band. He said it was due to different ideas about the band's music. He still helped with three songs on the Empire album.

The album Empire was released on August 28, 2006. The first song from the album, "Empire", reached number 9 on the UK music charts. Kasabian also won the Best Live Act award at the 2007 NME Awards.
