The awards celebrated great music and talented artists. They gave out awards for recent achievements, like "Best Album" of the year. They also gave special awards to honor an artist's entire career.

Famous Moments
The Q Awards were known for some memorable events.
In 2004, Elton John made headlines when he spoke out about Madonna. She was nominated for a "Best Live Act" award. Elton John said he thought she was lip-syncing (pretending to sing) during her shows instead of singing live. This caused a lot of discussion among music fans.
Another funny moment happened in 2001. The host, Phill Jupitus, took a very long time to announce the winner for "Best Producer." He kept making jokes until someone off-camera had to tell him to hurry up.
The End of an Era
The Q Awards ended after the Q magazine stopped being published in 2020. The company blamed the COVID-19 pandemic for its closure.
The final awards ceremony was planned for 2020 at the Roundhouse in London. Paul Heaton and Jacqui Abbott were scheduled to perform.
When the magazine announced it was closing, Paul Heaton donated a large amount of money to help the staff who had lost their jobs. To thank him for his kindness and his amazing career in music, the magazine gave him the very last Q Award.
