Lewis Marc Capaldi (born 7 October 1996) is a Scottish singer and songwriter. He is known for his powerful voice and emotional songs.
In 2019, his song "Someone You Loved" became a huge hit. It was number one in the UK for seven weeks. Later, it also reached number one in the US on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. This song was nominated for a Grammy Award and won a Brit Award for Song of the Year. It was the best-selling song in the UK in 2019.
Lewis Capaldi released his first album, Divinely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent, in May 2019. It quickly became the top album in the UK. It was also the best-selling album in the UK for both 2019 and 2020. His second album, Broken by Desire to Be Heavenly Sent, came out in 2023.

Early life
Lewis Capaldi was born in Glasgow, Scotland. He lived there until he was four years old. He has Scottish, Irish, and Italian family roots. He is the youngest of four children.
Lewis loved performing from a young age. He sang on stage during a family trip to France when he was only four. He started learning to play the guitar when he was nine. Soon, he began writing his own songs. He even snuck into pubs with his older brother to play gigs.
Career
Starting out (2014–2016)
In 2014, Lewis took part in a music project called Hit the Road. He played shows in different Scottish cities. When he was 18, a manager named Ryan Walter discovered him. Ryan heard a recording Lewis had uploaded to his SoundCloud account. The very next day, Ryan flew from America to hear Lewis play live. In 2016, Lewis finished his music studies at New College Lanarkshire.
Growing fame (2017–2018)

Lewis released his first collection of songs, called Bloom EP, in October 2017. He worked with a famous producer named Malay. Before that, in March 2017, he released his first song "Bruises". This song quickly got over 28 million plays on Spotify. This made him the fastest unsigned artist to reach 25 million plays.
Soon after, he signed with Universal Music Group. His music is now released by labels like Virgin EMI Records in the UK and Capitol Records in the US.
In late 2017, Lewis was named one of Vevo's 'Artists to Watch 2018'. He also won 'Best Acoustic' at the Scottish Alternative Music Awards. Many famous people noticed him, including Chloë Grace Moretz and Niall Horan. Niall Horan even asked Lewis to open for him on his tour in 2018. Lewis also opened for Sam Smith on 19 shows of their European tour. He then announced his own tour, selling out large venues very quickly.

Lewis started 2019 with "Someone You Loved" becoming a hit in many countries. It was number one on the UK Singles Chart for seven weeks. His first album, Divinely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent, came out in May. It became the best-selling album in the UK in five years. It was number one for five out of its first six weeks. The album became 'gold' in the UK just two weeks after it was released.
Lewis also made history by selling out an arena tour before his album was even released. The tickets sold out in just one second! He played for over a quarter of a million people in March 2020. He also launched an idea called LiveLive to help fans have a better experience at his concerts.
In April 2019, his song "Days Gone Quiet" was featured in the video game Days Gone. Over the summer of 2019, Lewis performed at festivals like Glastonbury Festival. He also supported Ed Sheeran on his world tour in August 2019.
In October 2019, "Someone You Loved" reached number one on the US Billboard Hot 100. This made him the first Scottish solo artist to top the US charts since 1981. The song was also nominated for a Grammy Award for Song of the Year.
In November 2019, an extended version of his first album was released. It included the song "Before You Go". This song became his second UK number-one single. Lewis won two awards at the 2020 Brit Awards. By September 2020, his first album had sold over one million copies in the UK.
New music and health (2021–present)

In March 2021, Lewis announced he was taking a break from shows. He wanted to focus on making his second album. He returned in summer 2022 to play his postponed concerts. These included big festivals like TRNSMT Festival and Latitude Festival.
The first song from his second album, Broken by Desire to Be Heavenly Sent, was "Forget Me". It came out in September 2022 and went straight to number one in the UK. He had two more number-one songs: "Pointless" in January 2023 and "Wish You the Best" in April 2023.
In June 2023, Lewis announced he was taking a break from touring for a while. He wanted to focus on his mental and physical health. Earlier that month, during his performance at the 2023 Glastonbury Festival, he had some difficulties. Fans helped him finish his songs, showing their support. Lewis had recently shared that he was diagnosed with Tourette's syndrome.
Personal life
Lewis Capaldi loves association football (soccer). He supports the Glasgow team Celtic F.C.. He is also cousins with the actor Peter Capaldi. Peter even appeared in Lewis's music video for "Someone You Loved".
After becoming famous, Lewis started feeling a lot of pressure and anxiety. He also began to show some nervous tics. In September 2022, he shared that he had been diagnosed with Tourette's syndrome. This is a condition that causes sudden, repeated movements or sounds.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Lewis moved back to his parents' house in Whitburn, Scotland. He worked on his second album there. In April 2023, a documentary about him called How I'm Feeling Now was released on Netflix. As of June 2023, Lewis is in a relationship with Scottish actress Ellie MacDowall.
