Paolo Giovanni Nutini (born 9 January 1987) is a talented Scottish singer and songwriter. He comes from Paisley, Scotland. Paolo Nutini became famous with his first album, These Streets, released in 2006. It quickly became popular in the UK. His next album, Sunny Side Up (2009), went straight to number one. Both albums sold millions of copies!

In 2014, he released his third album, Caustic Love, which also hit number one. His most recent album, Last Night in the Bittersweet, came out in 2022. Paolo Nutini has been nominated for several BRIT Awards and won an Ivor Novello Award for his songwriting.

Paolo Nutini's Early Life

Paolo Nutini was born in Paisley, Scotland, on January 9, 1987. He has a younger sister. His father's family is from Italy, and his mother's family is Scottish. Paolo's grandfather, Giovanni "Jackie" Nutini, loved music and encouraged him to sing. A teacher at his school, St Andrews Academy, also noticed his amazing talent.

Paolo left school to learn about the music business. He worked as a roadie and sold T-shirts for a Scottish band called Speedway. He spent three years learning how the music industry works and performing live. Later, he worked in a music studio in Glasgow. There, he started making demo songs and writing music with Jim Duguid, the drummer from Speedway.

When he was 17, Paolo moved to London. He performed often at a pub called The Bedford in Balham. He also appeared on Radio London and at The Hard Rock Cafe. He even opened shows for famous artists like The Rolling Stones, Amy Winehouse, and KT Tunstall.

These Streets: His First Album (2005–2007)

Paolo Nutini made his first demo recording, which led to him signing with Atlantic Records in May 2005. He was just 18 years old. His first single, "These Streets," was available for free download in May 2006. Then came his next single, "Last Request", released on July 4, 2006. This song reached number five on the UK Singles Chart.

In the music video for "Last Request," Paolo plays a robber, but you only find out at the end! His third single, "Jenny Don't Be Hasty", came out in September 2006 and reached number twenty. "Rewind" was his fourth single, released in December 2006, reaching number twenty-seven.

Paolo's first album, These Streets, was released on July 17, 2006. It quickly entered the UK albums chart at number three. Many songs on the album, like "Last Request" and "Rewind," were inspired by his life experiences. The album has sold incredibly well, earning a "quintuple platinum" award.

In 2007, Paolo covered "It Must Be Love" by Labi Siffre for a BBC Radio 1 album. Throughout 2006, Paolo played many concerts across Britain and around the world. He performed at places like King Tut's Wah Wah Hut in Glasgow and Carnegie Hall in New York. He also played at big music events like the Montreux Jazz Festival and Glastonbury Festival. Sunny Side Up: His Second Album (2009–2011)

On June 1, 2009, Paolo Nutini released his second album, Sunny Side Up. It immediately went to number one on the charts. The first song from the album, "Candy", was released in May. He performed "Coming Up Easy" on a TV show in July, and it became the second single. The third single from the album was "Pencil Full of Lead".

Music critics had different opinions about the album. Some liked how it mixed different styles like soul, country, and folk. Others were not as impressed. However, the album was a huge success! It debuted at number one on the UK Albums Chart, selling over 60,000 copies. It also did very well in Ireland. In January 2010, Sunny Side Up became the first number one album in the UK for that year. This album also sold millions of copies, earning a "quintuple platinum" award.

Caustic Love: His Third Album (2013–2016)

In December 2013, Paolo Nutini announced his third album, Caustic Love, which was released on April 14, 2014. The first song from the album, "Scream (Funk My Life Up)", came out in January. The Independent newspaper called the album "an unqualified success." In December 2014, Apple chose Caustic Love as the Best Album in iTunes' 'Best of 2014'. The album debuted at number one in the UK and quickly earned a "platinum" award.

After Caustic Love was released, Paolo went on an 18-month tour. He performed in North America, Europe, South Africa, Australia, and New Zealand. In August 2015, he played a huge show for 35,000 people in Glasgow. Paolo took a break from touring in 2016. However, he did headline the Concert in the Gardens for Edinburgh's Hogmanay (New Year's Eve) celebrations in 2016/2017. Tickets sold out in just three hours!

Last Night in the Bittersweet: His Latest Album (2022–Present)

After more than eight years since his last album, Paolo Nutini announced his fourth studio album, Last Night in the Bittersweet, on May 11, 2022. The album was released on July 1, 2022. Along with the announcement, he released two new songs from the album: "Through the Echoes" and "Lose It". In July 2022, he was a main performer at the TRNSMT festival.

Paolo Nutini's Media Appearances

On New Year's Eve 2006, Paolo Nutini appeared on BBC Scotland's Hogmanay Live show. He performed several songs at Edinburgh Castle. On April 11, 2007, Paolo performed in a concert that was streamed live online.

On July 24, 2007, Paolo Nutini received The Golden St Christopher medal from the city of Barga in Italy. This is the highest honor the city can give, celebrating his special connection to Barga and its people. In September 2007, Paolo performed "Last Request" on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. In October 2007, Paolo performed at the Voodoo Fest in New Orleans.

On New Year's Eve 2008–09, Paolo performed at the Hogmanay street parties in both Edinburgh and Glasgow. He was the first artist to play both locations on the same day for the event. In 2011, Paolo appeared in a documentary called Reggae Got Soul: The Story of Toots and the Maytals. This film was shown on BBC.

On July 27, 2012, Paolo Nutini sang at the London 2012 Olympic Games Opening Ceremony Concert in London's Hyde Park. He performed alongside other famous bands like Duran Duran and Snow Patrol.

Paolo Nutini's Personal Life

Paolo Nutini grew up in Paisley, Scotland, and still lives there. He has an Honorary Doctorate from the University of the West of Scotland in his hometown.

In July 2019, Paolo showed his support for the charity Tiny Changes. He bought a Chewbacca mask that fellow Scottish musician Lewis Capaldi wore on stage at TRNSMT. Paolo then raffled off the mask, raising over £10,000 for the charity. Paolo Nutini is also a supporter of the football club Celtic F.C..
