Sorgho, Kentucky is a small place in Daviess County, Kentucky. It is an unincorporated community, which means it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. Instead, it is part of the larger county. Sorgho was first known as Sorghotown.
How Sorgho Got Its Name
Sorgho was named after a company called the Daviess County Sorgho Sugar Company. This company was started in 1868 and 1869 by Dr. J. Q. A. Stewart, J. Balee, and E. Guthrie. They built a factory to make sorghum sugar. Once the factory was built, the community around it started to grow.
Early History of Sorghotown
The official boundaries of Sorghotown were set on May 12, 1874. This happened because ten voters asked for a change. Judge Triplett of Daviess County, Kentucky agreed to their request. He ordered that a new voting area be created in Daviess County. This new area was called 'Sorghotown Voting Place'.
