Sorrentinos are a special kind of filled pasta from Argentina. They are similar to ravioli, but they are usually larger and have a round shape. The dough for Sorrentinos is made with flour and eggs. Inside, they can have many different yummy fillings. These often include cheese, ham, vegetables, or even nuts.

The Story of Sorrentinos

There are a few interesting stories about how Sorrentinos first came to be.

Where Did Sorrentinos Begin?

One idea suggests that Sorrentinos were created in 1958 in a restaurant called Buon Cibo in Sorrento, Italy. The story says a chef there made pasta filled with cooked ham, mozzarella, and provolone cheese. However, you won't find pasta called "Sorrentinos" in Italy today!

Argentine Origins

Other theories point to Argentina as their true birthplace. Some people believe they were created in the city of Mar del Plata. This might have been by an Italian immigrant from Sorrento, or by his son, Cayetano Persico. Another idea is that they started in Buenos Aires, in a place named Sorrento or Sorrentino. No matter where they truly began, Sorrentinos are a beloved dish in Argentina!
