The South Region is a large area in the country of Cameroon, located in Central Africa. Its capital city is Ebolowa. This region is known for its beautiful rivers and important wildlife areas.

Nature and Wildlife

The South Region is home to several important rivers. These include the Nyong, the Ntem, and the Dja. These rivers are important for the local environment and the people who live there.

The region also has special places set aside to protect animals and plants. One of the most famous is the Dja Faunal Reserve. This reserve is so important that UNESCO has named it a World Heritage Site. This means it's a place of special cultural or natural importance to the world.

Other protected areas in the South Region include the Campo Reserve and the Mangame Gorilla Sanctuary. These places help protect different kinds of wildlife, including gorillas and other animals that live in the forests.

How the Region is Governed

The South Region is divided into smaller parts to help manage it better. These smaller parts are called departments. There are four main departments in the South Region:

  • Dja-et-Lobo
  • Mvila
  • Océan
  • Vallée-du-Ntem

Each department has its own local government that works with the main regional government.
