The Campo River (also known as the Ntem River) is an important river in Central Africa. It forms a natural border between several countries. These include Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea, and Gabon.
The river starts its journey in Gabon. From there, it flows westwards. Finally, it empties into the Atlantic Ocean. This happens in Cameroon, specifically in an area called the Bight of Biafra.

What is the Campo River?
The Campo River is known by different names. In Spanish, it's called Río Campo. In French, it's known as Rivière Ntem. It's a vital waterway for the region.
This river flows through lush tropical rainforests. It supports a wide variety of plants and animals. Many communities also live along its banks.
Important Places Along the River
Several towns and communities are located along the Campo River. These places often rely on the river for transport, fishing, and water.
- Campo is a town in Cameroon. It is located near where the river meets the ocean.
- Minvoul, Gabon, is another town. It is found further upstream in Gabon.
A Special River: Ramsar Sites
Parts of the Campo River are recognized internationally. They are called "Ramsar Sites." A Ramsar Site is a wetland area that is very important for nature. It is protected under an international agreement called the Ramsar Convention. This agreement helps to conserve wetlands around the world.
Two parts of the Campo River have this special status:
- The first part, known as "Río Ntem o Campo," was named a Ramsar Site on June 2, 2003.
- The second part, called "Partie Camerounaise du Fleuve Ntem," became a Ramsar Site on June 5, 2012.
This protection helps to keep the river and its surroundings healthy. It ensures that the unique plants and animals living there are safe.
