South West Osborn Island is an island located off the coast of the Kimberley region in Western Australia. It's a fascinating place with unique wildlife and a rich history connected to its traditional owners.

South West Osborn Island is part of the Bonaparte Archipelago, a group of islands found in the ocean. It sits on the western side of Admiralty Gulf. The island is about 3.1 kilometres (2 mi) away from the mainland.

Size and Shape

This island covers a large area of about 1,339 hectares (3,309 acres). To give you an idea, that's like more than 3,300 football fields! The highest point on the island reaches 134 metres (440 ft) above sea level. The island's land is quite rough and rocky. It has many steep slopes and loose rocks, which are called scree.

The Osborn Island Group

South West Osborn Island is not alone. It's part of a bigger family of islands known as the Osborn Island group. This group includes other islands like Middle Osborn, Borda, Carlia, Steep Head, and Kidney Island. There are also smaller rocky outcrops called West, North, and Centre Rock.
