The Southern Alberta Art Gallery Maansiksikaitsitapiitsinikssin (often called SAAG) is a modern art gallery located in downtown Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada. It shows exciting new art from today's artists. The gallery has three special rooms where art is displayed and a gift shop where you can find unique items.

How the Gallery Started

In 1974, some people in Lethbridge really wanted an art gallery. They formed a group called the Southern Alberta Art Gallery Association. This group asked the Lethbridge City Council to create a gallery in the old Carnegie Library building. The Lethbridge Public Library had moved out of this building.

The city council liked the idea. They gave money to fix up the building and to help run the new gallery. In September 1975, Allan McKay became the first director and curator. The very first art shows opened to the public in 1976.

The Blackfoot Name

On October 23, 2020, the Southern Alberta Art Gallery received a special Blackfoot name. This was done in a ceremony led by Elder Bruce Wolf Child and Elder Mary Fox. The Blackfoot name is Maansiksikaitsitapiitsinikssin. This name is an important part of the gallery's identity and its connection to the local Indigenous community.
